Incident Report: Home Burglary
We are very sad to share the news that we have received another report of a home burglary, this time at the residence located at 3323 Castleman Ln.
Today at around 12:30pm, the Castleman officer on duty was approached by the housekeeper for the home at 3323 Castleman Ln. to report that the home had been broken into. The Castleman officer immediately contacted Burbank Police Department who arrived at the residence at 12:51pm.
According to the housekeeper, the bedroom glass door on the second floor was broken into and when she entered the home the chairs were turned over. Soon after her discovery, she immediately came to the guard house to inform the officer as she was not sure if someone was still in the house and decided to wait outside of the home until the police arrived.
Due to the fact that the home did not have security cameras or an alarm system, there is no time frame for when this incident occurred. The homeowners were not home when this happened.
If you have any security footage or helpful tips about the break-in, please contact our community manager, Trey Standback, at Seabreeze: trey.standback@seabreezemgmt.com.
In addition, we have reached out to the Burbank Police Department to schedule an emergency town hall meeting for the neighborhood to get a direct update on the recent string of break-in’s.
Based on recommendations from our Access Control committee, we are also immediately implementing a few changes to our access control protocol, including the following:
We are eliminating regular neighborhood vehicle patrols as we feel it would be a better deterrent to have the officers visible at the gates while on duty instead of driving around the neighborhood. The patrol vehicle will either park the vehicle in front between the incoming and outgoing lanes, as they do throughout the day, or park the car inside the community where it can be visibly seen from the gate.
We are looking to add night-vision infrared license plate cameras at both gates that would allow us to identify and log license plate numbers of all vehicles entering the neighborhood (even those traveling at a high rate of speed and in adverse low light conditions).
We are instructing all the officers to require a DL# or Work ID for any Amazon Flex drivers that are not in a clearly marked Amazon, DHL, UPS or Fed Ex vehicle. In addition, a log sheet will be kept of all entries.
As we have several new officers on duty that are new to our community and do not have a relationship with all the homeowners, we will be implementing a new protocol that will require all homeowners without a transponder decal on their vehicle to enter through the visitor lane to be checked in. If you do not have a transponder decal, you can easily submit an application here.
These are just a few of the steps that we are taking to enhance access control in partnership with the Access Control committee.
If you have any additional recommendations, please feel free to contact the Board here.
NOTE: The goal of this communication is to keep Burbank Hills homeowners informed of criminal activity that has occurred in our neighborhood.
A reminder to all homeowners, if you see or suspect a suspicious person/vehicle or witness a crime being committed, call 911 immediately.
If you see something, say something. Neighbors watching out for each other is the most effective means available for keeping crime out of our community.
Be alert to unusual or suspicious behavior in our neighborhood and call the Burbank Police Department. Write down descriptions of suspicious person(s) and license numbers;
Tell a trusted neighbor if your house will be unoccupied for an extended period. Tell him or her how to reach you in an emergency;
Look after your neighbor’s homes when they are away and ask them to look after yours. This includes picking up mail, newspapers and storing trashcans or recycling bins. Don’t send a message that says, "No One Is Home;"
Above all, stay involved. It is the most effective way to reduce or prevent crime and make your neighborhood safe; and
Remember your job is to report crime. The responsibility for apprehending criminals belongs to the police.
