Incident Report: Attempted Home Burglary

Unfortunately, we have received a report of an attempted burglary in our neighborhood last night.

Last night at approximately 9PM an attempted break-in occurred at a home on Durham Ct. The home was not occupied, as the entire family was on vacation and had been gone already for several days. The home was apparently equipped with an alarm and video surveillance system. The initial report is that the homeowner was alerted to the activity and they were able to remotely view their cameras, which showed intruders at their home.

The homeowner contacted the Castleman gate officer who, in turn, immediately contacted Burbank PD. Five police vehicles and a helicopter responded within 10 minutes, but were unable to locate the intruders.

BPD reports that there were 2 intruders who entered the property undetected via the hillside facing the Cabrini Villas and fire road that leads to Scott Way.

According to BPD, the suspects used their bodies to hoist themselves up to the balcony and attempted to open a sliding door, but the door was reinforced by a piece of steel. They broke the glass, quickly scared and ran back down the hillside. These individuals have not yet been apprehended.

BPD would like to remind all homeowners that it is in their best interest to contact the police FIRST before contacting our gate officer, in order to expedite their response time. They also reminded us that the area to the rear of the residence (Cabrini Villas) is in the City of Los Angeles and that they are unable to secure it.

We will provide more details as we receive them.

A reminder to all homeowners, if you see or suspect a suspicious person/vehicle or witness a crime being committed, call Burbank Police immediately at (818) 238-3000.

If you see something, say something. Neighbors watching out for each other is the most effective means available for keeping crime out of our community.

Be alert to unusual or suspicious behavior in our neighborhood and call the Burbank Police Department. Write down descriptions of suspicious person(s) and license numbers.

  • Get a home alarm and/or security cameras! These act as a good deterrent and can expedite response times from police.

  • At night, lock your doors and leave outdoor lights on for added visibility.

  • Tell a trusted neighbor if your house will be unoccupied for an extended period. Tell them how to reach you in an emergency.

  • Look after your neighbor’s homes when they are away and ask them to look after yours. This includes picking up mail, newspapers and storing trashcans or recycling bins. Don’t send a message that says, "No One Is Home."

  • Above all, stay involved. It is the most effective way to reduce or prevent crime and make your neighborhood safe.

Remember your job is to report crime. The responsibility for apprehending criminals belongs to the police.
